Two new Professional Police torches

Two new torches have been released by Wolf Eyes, the Sniper II Pro and Pro Police, both featuring the brilliant new Procap. This new rotary tailcap allows you to one handed change the level or utilise one of the two strobes on each torch (both emergency and disorientating strobe). During a disaster or emergency (natural or man made disasters) adequate lighting is essential to any type of response. Its absence or slow delivery creates delays, increasing the potential damage and liability faced.

While generator lights are usually available and invaluable for lighting a large area, quick setup and or repositioning is a logistical nightmare at best, and often a losing proposition. Two torches with forensic UV (Ultraviolet) capability

Most Police know the forensic advantages of using UV (Ultraviolet) light such as its non destructive nature when searching for bodily fluids (which is why it suggested to be used before destructive methods such as Luminol or washes) , it’s use illuminating latent fingerprints and of course the benefit when checking the authenticity of documents. Wolf Eyes has released two new torches which feature UV LEDs and dual switches, so can be used via the forward or tail switch. They are the Wolf Eyes U2 with 1,000 lumens and the slightly shorter Wolf Eyes T4 with 855 lumens.

Remote Area Lighting

Remote Area Lighting seems to be a big topic of discussion recently. The original product in this area, the Foxfury Nomad LED Remote Area Light, has been updated. It provides area lighting in a highly portable package (the FoxFury Nomad folds to a 12cm by 85cm tube!) which will light an area for 2.5 hours on high and 9 hours on low. It has the facility to change between spot or flood and can even be used on the move as a searchlight. Obviously this light is tremendous as emergency lighting , being able to be deployed in 30 seconds and then with it’s own self contained power source is able to provide up to 9 hours of light. Just the thing for an evacuation centre.

Pistol light now with Laser

The FoxFury AWL-P pistol light partner model is now available in Australia, the FoxFury AWL-P Laser pistol light which as you can tell by it’s name includes a red laser. You still have all the advantages of a single battery solution such as lower weight, thinner size (usually as slim as the slide on your handgun or pistol) which means less chance of snagging when drawing. The lower weight is helpful both on the belt and off. As with the non laser version it can use both disposable batteries and rechargeable, to lower your running costs or reduce your departments carbon footprint.

An updated ladies torch, the Fenix LD01

Fenix have updated the LD01 and with it now putting out 72 lumens, it will make a great ladies torch for the purse. If you are not on General Duties, but want something for the odd time you get a call out, this new little torch might be perfect. Low output and readily available batteries with small size make it a natural for handbags.

Can a 15cm torch providing 855 lumens be of use to a Police Officer? We like to think so! The Wolf Eyes T3 has three (3) LEDs mounted in it’s head to provide triple the output you would expect from a quality torch this size. Not much bigger than a standard belt mounted tactical torch, the T3 is designed to provide a dominant amount of light, with a good spot and good flood or spill light surrounding. The T3 is also available with a picatinny rail mountable tapeswitch for firearm use, particularly useful for firearms with optional triple picatinny rail such as MP5, etc.

Police – the default emergency service for everything?

We have noticed a surge in rural based police obtaining the Defender 260, a flashlight with crenulated bezel (a tube like extension projecting past the torch glass) used for breaking glass. When asked why they are obtaining such a torch, the main reason was that police are often the first or only emergency services to arrive at the scene of fires or accidents. Surprising but quite likely in smaller towns. It also shows up the far reaching roles which police are often asked to perform.

For the same reasons there has been an increase in Queensland Police fitting Defender bezels to their Guiders (they utilise a forward mounted switch which suits the Queensland Police low light shooting method).

Most of us have some devices which run on CR123A batteries like pistol lights, coms gear, flashes, rangefinders, etc. If the device doesn’t take rechargeables we are held to the high prices charged in Australia for such batteries.
